The new theoretical and educational block

The new education and research building of the University of Pécs Medical School was built from almost 14 billion forints, and the educational and research areas of the faculty have been expanded by 40%.
There are two lecture rooms on the ground floor of the new building, both seating 334 students.

They have been equipped with the most modern audio-visual technbology. The system can broadcast lectures in near TV-level quality and can be used to create streams with subtitles and short clips.

Aside from the two large lecture rooms, there are two smaller, 92-seat lecture rooms for students to gain medical knowledge in the new building.

The small lecture rooms are not without the technologies of the big ones, they are equipped with audio-visual tech fully compatible with 21 st century needs that have been developed with the needs of education at the Medical School in mind.

The aula in the heart of the new, 12 thousand square metres ultramodern theoretical building is a wide community area from which there are corridors running east and west to the two ground floor lecture rooms and seminar rooms. The aula, backed by benches and a large glass surface is ideal for greeting visitors. Since October 2022, it is decorated by the statue pair of Jun Kaneko world-renowned Japanese ceramic, honorary doctor of the University of Pécs.

The new building of the Pécs Medical School hosts the so-called Core Facility rooms that are fit for the highest needs of medical research and all have special characteristics. The shared area departments housed in the new building is in the middle, and it was developed using the “lab inside a lab” principle.

Developing the Imaging lab line was a big challenge. It has separate boxes with individually adjustable air and lighting technologies to protect the super sensitive optical equipment and to create areas isolated from outside light, and to have them provide photon-isolated, fully dust-free areas. Another area to note is the isolated, sluice-gated access system of the molecular biology lab, and also that the entire lab area has an air circulation system that can filter DNS and RNS contamination.

Both the ground floor and the first floor of the new theoretical building welcomes students with nice, tailored community areas, providing a place to spend time between lectures or seminars or long hours of study well into the evening. with comfortable furniture.

One of the nicest areas of the new theoretical building of the Medical School, handed over in September 2021 is the North-facing terrace of the Physiology Department. It provides an excellent view of the park developed with the new building and on the Janus Pannonius Clinical Block in the background, otherwise called the 400 beds clinic.

The old the section connecting the old building with the new, 21 st century building – commonly called the Neck – is traversed by many students if their classes are in the new building, or if they are on the way to have lunch in the faculty restaurant. The wide corridor could have more functions in the future, focusing on 21 st century needs.

Along with the new theoretical block, the campus was also expanded with a restaurant focusing on international student needs. The restaurant is on the ground floor of the Southern side and offers cuisine from all over the world along with began options, and it is highly popular. Many students visit the restaurant in lunchtime, which has a seating capability of almost a hundred. The attached café is also very popular. The services of the restaurant are developed and changed based on reviews from students, teachers and other staff members.

In time with the development of the new theoretical building, a new, 10 thousand square metres park was formed between the 400 beds clinic and the medical school buildings, to provide an area to recharge in nature. The park of the Pécs Medical School is a wonderful community area for students with its greenery, modern casings, outdoor furniture and pond.
